Working to Improve Safety for our Members
Working in the construction sector can be a rewarding career that provides nicely for LIUNA members and their families. However, construction sites and activities present many safety challenges and issues due to the very physical nature of the work and a work environment that often includes equipment and other hazards.
Ontario Federation of Labour Survey Results
The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) conducted a survey between July and November 2016 that was completed by nearly 5,000 workers in Ontario. It helps to show the extent of precarious work in Ontario, with almost 90 per cent of all respondents reporting that they have children, family members or friends who are precariously employed.

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of a tasty tradition in Owen Sound, and LIUNA Local 1059 is proud to be a part of the fun. This year, the Local helped sponsor the 30th Annual Salmon Spectacular fishing derby, and again, worked to market Local 1059 to construction workers and employers in the Grey County area.
LIUNA Local 1059 recognizes that health benefits and life insurance are important tools that members can use to help protect themselves, their families and their futures. At no additional cost to members, LIUNA Local 1059 has been working to improve benefit and life insurance coverage during the past three years.
